Designer Industrial Control Hacking Toolkit Goes Mainstream

On Wednesday, the Department of Energy, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the NSA, and the FBI jointly released an advisory about a new designer-grade hacker toolset that targets industrial control systems like power grids, factories, water utilities. The US Government warns those in charge of critical infrastructure, including water, gas, and oil to take notice and preventative measures.

The advisory released Wednesday unveiled this new hacker toolset capable of compromising many common industrial control systems equipment. This specifically manufactured malware uses multiple tools targeted at disrupting and overwriting of the logic of control devices, including common programmable logic controllers (PLCs) that are sold by Schneider Electric and OMRON which act as intermediaries between workstation computers and the equipment, machines, and sensors within many industrial environments.
